You might be amazed to know that the number of women approaching or experiencing the menopause in steadily increasing. In 1998 there were 4.7 million women and by 2025, it is estimated that there will be in the region of 1.1 billion women. Big numbers – but actually the truth is, that in the UK, one in four women are suffering some effects of the menopause or perimenopause. The perimenopause can start several years prior to the ceasing of the period and for that reason can be confusing as it is often the time women will experience the most common symptoms of the menopause. The menopause is technically the stage woman move into, once their periods have ceased and this is not something that only happens to women over 50!
The symptoms of the menopause are not something women have to just endure and get on with. There are things you can do to help yourself and options available.
