What is really stopping you losing weight?

I was thinking about weight loss and how people go about this. I have been working with someone, who has lost 25lbs to date and we were having a chat yesterday. You see to successfully lose weight on a permanent basis; there are a number of things that you have to get right.

Firstly, you have to deal with the demons that are living in your head, those things that make you lose motivation and make you doubt you will ever succeed; those things that make you ‘fall off the wagon’. Next you have to get your mindset right and that is dependent on hooking into your own compelling reason for losing the weight, for changing your behaviour and your lifestyle! This is what has made the difference to the lady I am talking about. This is what has made the difference between her success and her failure. She is creating a new habit and way of eating and being healthy and the habit will become committed to her subconscious mind and will eventually run without her even thinking about it. Eventually, when she reaches her goal weight, she will just continue in her new healthy way of life.

Diets don’t work – and that the truth! In fact diets make you fatter!

If you put yourself ‘on a diet’, what happens? You get demotivated, you feel like you are depriving yourself. You struggle to find foods you like. You look for easy options like ready meals or low fat alternative (which tend to have a high proportion of sugar, to make them tasty) etc., etc. You feel miserable and depressed because you end up with a fixed mindset instead of a growth mindset. Then, if and when you do reach your goal weight, you breath a sigh of relief, because now you can go back to eating normally again! Does any of this sound familiar? Are you beginning to see how you are inadvertently self sabotaging your weight loss? Do you recognize the ‘yoyo’ weight loss pattern?
